Dental care in the United States is delivered mostly by private practices: a general or family dentist who handles exams, cleanings, fillings and crowns, and refers out anything that needs a specialist. Group practices and dental clinics put several dentists, hygienists and sometimes specialists under one roof, often with evening and Saturday hours. Most offices ask new patients for a comprehensive exam with X-rays before routine cleanings, which the American Dental Association recommends every six months. Prices are set by each practice, and most accept dental insurance (PPO plans more widely than HMO ones), CareCredit-style financing or an in-house membership plan for people without coverage. Emergency dental services take same-day patients for toothaches, broken teeth and abscesses, usually at a premium.

This is a 'corporate' dental office. It is staffed with traveling dentists who are kind enough but have no interest in maintaining patients. I left yesterday with no solutions offered for my jaw pain. The dentist suggested a different retainer would probably help, but he didn't know how to do that in this office. Out-of-Network insurance is a necessary because you never know what dentist will be present the day of your appointment and what insurance that particular dentist will accept, if any. Office staff is of no help. In four years this is the second time I am experiencing a 'between permanent dentists' time. No more.

This is the biggest clown show I have ever seen. I do not recommend anybody going to this place. They made me pay before the claim was sent to my insurance, which was July 2025. Today is May 5, 2026. The claim still has not been filed with my insurance company. The office manager is a joke. She has given me every reason why it has not been filed. And when I had to get a crown, of course the wrong was ordered. So that took another month to get the gold one I wanted. If you are looking for a reliable dentist office, this is not it.

Iβve been a patient here for a couple of years and initially had a very positive experience, which is why I stayed despite ongoing changes. However, over the last two years, there have consistently been appointments canceled or changed the day before, often due to staffing shortages and turnover among dentists, hygienists, and administrative staff. Today, I received an email, the day before my appointment, stating that the practice no longer had a dentist, but that a temporary provider might fill in and could be out-of-network, resulting in additional costs. Iβve been trying to get more information and possibly cancel - calling multiple times, emailing, and texting - but havenβt been able to reach anyone, and thereβs been no confirmation of my cancellation request via email. The voicemail box is full. I hope this feedback reaches the appropriate team, as communication and continuity of care are important. Edit: I called the morning of my appointment and discovered the office was closed, even though Google, social media, their website, and voicemail all indicated normal business operations. I did not receive any email, text, or call notifying me of the closure. When I spoke with S

I started going to Appalachian Dental Associates several years ago. I really liked the original dentist. Unfortunately, he retired and a group bought the practice. Since then, the staff (hygienists, dentists, and office staff) has been a revolving door. Just about every time I go, or my husband and children go, thereβs a whole new staff. This is disconcerting! Why such turnover? I have given many chances, but the departure of the most recent dentist has me looking for another practice with more consistency.

I have been going to Appalachian Dental for a few years now and noticed that just about every time I went there was a new hygienist. This past visit there was a new doctor who has to be brand new out of dental school. Not only did she not examine my teeth or do a cancer screening but I have sent an email sharing my experience and have yet to hear back. This is my last attempt. The trend of older dentists bringing in new dentists to do all the work and hopefully hold a practice together is not the way to go. It becomes very apparent and how you lose patients. I am done with this practice like my last one and encourage individuals to ensure this is not how a practice is run when they look for a new dentist.
